Sally, I just went through this. On Wednesday, day 57, my bitch's temp dropped to 98.6. She vomited bile and wouldn't eat. The next day, it dropped to 97.9 at 1:00 in the afternoon. At 9:00 p.m. it spiked to 100.4. The next morning, yesterday, I let her out to pee. When she came in, she was dripping green discharge. I rushed her to the vets for an emergency C-section. She had two dead puppies. One had been dead several days (the first day her temp dropped, the other had been dead less than 24 hours (the second drop to 97.9). She had NO signs of labor. No panting, no nesting, nothing. I read in one of my books that when the temperature drops and then spikes up, there is a dead puppy. The vet said the third puppy was starting to detach and if she didn't have the c-section when she did, we would have lost it, too. Yesterday was not a good day. I'm a lot broker after the vet bill! We did have four beautiful puppies: one solid black female, black& tan female, and 2 black & tan boys. All are very dark. They are healthy and strong even though they were five days early. Good luck with your bitch.
