I completely agree with this post.
Had I not been a member of this list, there is little chance I would have
even known about the Hunte debacle which for me is a huge issue. This list
offers members the opportunity to get information that would not normally be
public knowledge to the vast majority of members that are not part of the inner
circle that is so prevalent in this club.
I am totally aware of the various components at play on this list, and I
don't consider myself easily influenced one way or another based on the same
people posting over and over on a certain subject. Instead I look at the big
picture....watch what individuals seem to be involved in controversial issues
over and over again, take into account the very minimal explanations provided
by those parties involved and draw certain conclusions from that.
If secret ballots and closed door sessions are the way the Board prefers to
operate, then I have to assume that collectively the decision has been made to
keep the members in the dark. When an individual board member chooses to voice
concerns publicly or allows someone else to do it for them in the only forum
(this list) that can reach a large group of members, then I have to respect and
understand the desperate circumstances that made them make that decision. If
other board members or individuals involved decide not to participate in the
discussion then they alone must suffer the consequences when misinformation is
posted and not countered.
This year I come into the election with a firm understanding of who I want to
represent me. If I am making my decision based on inaccurate information, then
that will be the fault of those Board Members who have chosen not to
participate in the discussions. Without this list, I like many others would
have chosen on name recognition alone. Of course I always vote for people I've
never heard of before so in the 9 out of 10 scenario described below...I'm
number 10......IMO new blood is usually a good thing when I have nothing else
to go on.

The problem is this... this list only account for about 400-600 people who
are voting at the GSDCA National Election.
Generally, we have between 1000-1500 who vote each year. It's those "1000"
members who don't have a freaking clue what's discussed here, don't have a
clue what's going on or not going on, that give us who we have on our Board
and who gets to judge the national... 9 chances out of 10, their votes are
based upon -- Name Recognition.
Not to mention, for years and years before the internet, election campaigns
were won or lost based upon your telephone chain -- and... that also still
works like a charm -- add in the Email Chain -- and viola -- those people
who have the "powah" have already got their ducks in a row to either get
re-elected or have their pigeon elected.
Now add on this one -- Judges running for the board with their ***real***
reason -- getting more judging assignments and ultimately to judge the US
National. It happens over and over and over again.
So -- I don't know -- I'd say it's time we hold everyone on this current
Board of Directors accountable. This is what I want them to be held
accountable for:
1) What have **you** accomplished for the club in the 2 years you've had on
this Board?
2) What are the reasons you feel we should trust you with our club and
re-elect you?
3) If you are re-elected - what do you plan to accomplish in the next 2
years?

I have been casually reading most of the posts on the list lately, and I
have to say, I am totally amazed at the behavior of some individuals -
finger pointing, questions with alterior motives, etc... I belong to my
National breed club, a local club and an all-breed club and all these
organizations have had their issues - DCA was split in half over a subject
for several years and people are still enemies to this day..
What I have never seen is this much abuse, criticism and just downright
nastiness. I would like to be able to join the GSDCA, but until people stop
being so mean to each other, I don't think I want to be associated with such
an organization.
I feel bad for new people in this breed and I feel bad for the breed itself.
GSD are wonderful breed (yes, I am one of those other breed people that used
think otherwise), but wow, with all the b*tching, moaning, complaining,
etc.... its hard to remember that..
I know you guys are worried about yourselves, but has it ever occurred to
anyone what you look like to the outside world? I could open up my
vocabulary here, but I will refrain...
A wonderful breed, many great people and a whole lot of b.s.. It seems to me
if you guys want to speak your peace, do it during your elections - isn't
that what the freedom to vote is all about?
