It's out and onto the Assembly floor.
We must now gear up for the Senate. My hope was to defeat it in committee
and then offer a proactive initiative on education. Assemblywoman Horton
suggested such a solution in her remarks prior to the vote.
I was in Palm Springs last Monday discussing this with consultants who
believe an Educational PAC will have great impact on the outcome of 1634 and
other negative bills. This was also a major point of discussion at the NAIA
Conference Laurie Pruett and I attended on behalf of RALEEF this past
weekend in Portland. We could channel our efforts through the NAIA (National
Animal Interest Alliance) who is already geared up for such a fight. The
conference was just awesome and many professionals in the field added so
much new info on how to succeed. I also want to hear if you all would
support (time and $) such an Educational PAC? It will not be inexpensive to
get this going in time to address AB 1634 in the CA Senate but if we succeed
there, we can export that success to other States and use our Educational
PAC as a template for other States. I met with AKC reps at the conference
and they our behind our efforts as were many of the other organizations in
attendance. Such a great we
ekend and now this vote...ugh!
Probably the one most single thing that was evidenced is the need to for us
to unite under an established organization like NAIA. They will be expanding
their sphere of influence across the country as the year progresses. I urge
you all to go to their website and join. www.naiaonline.org I urge your
regional clubs to join as well.
United we can be a force to contend with and divided we will most certainly
lose.
