Ok, I guess you learn something new every day....I love the quarter horse
breed, but warmbloods are my horses. I love the german shepherd but who knows,
down the line, I might just own a king charles cavalier, I am almost convinced
to get one. Puppies are coming and I have almost made my mind up. Would I own
a quarter horse??? Most certainly. Love everything about them, especially
thier easy going attitude, except for a couple of lines that I won't mention.
My old Thoroughbred geriatric mare will be 29 next month and she is the most
dirtiest, sloppiest horse I have ever owned, but I wouldn't trade her love for
anything in the world, she is so dedicated to me. Had her out in her nicely
growing grass field yesterday, and of all the grass she could graze, guess
where she went, in the patch with the burrs and blackberries, so I have my work
cut out now, she is covered from head to toe in burrs. And to top it all off,
my dogs are naked, the look funny, blown coats galore!

I find it funny that folks refer to the bulldog style Quarter Horse as the
'original' when the breed was developed as a Quarter mile race Horse [hence the
name] on the East coast from thoroughbred and local mixed stock, then later
bred to mustang [Mestino stock of Arab/Barb decent] in the west to make them a
hardier worker. The 'bulldog' was developed as a cattle herder but was not the
'original' version.......
The 'bulldog' was developed to handle heavier cattle after ranchers started
importing European cattle to bred to the native longhorn cattle to improve meat
output. They probably had to use cold blood cross stock to get that extra size
and body mass. Just look at the photos from the 1800's to see what ranch
horses looked like before you start flaming!!!
To make this dog related.... same thing happened in dogs. Look for the
Australian Shepherds in the same photos while you're looking at the horses!!
LOL One hundred years ago they looked just like the dogs you'd see at an ASCA
trial today......or a heavier bodied smooth Pyremean Shepherd, which is where
the breed originated. From the Pyremean mountains with the sheep to Australia
to the west coast of the US with the same Basque herders. They are no more an
"American' breed than Quarter Horses are a "Texas" breed!!!!! Flame away. LOL
