SFCC Members:

A new scanner was installed in the Computer Room. The was necessary for multiple reasons. The primary reason was the old scanner would not work on Windows 7. As you know, in the next few weeks, the PC's in the Computer Room will be upgraded to Windows 7.

Here is some information on the new Canon CanoScan 8800F scanner:

1) The scanner has a power on/off button. Please turn off the scanner when finished using it. (The scanner has a fast warmup feature, so there is no reason to leave it on continuously.)

2) While there are several new programs for the scanner on the computer, you can still use VueScan just as you did with the old scanner. If you want to use the new programs, please see the Quick Start Guide.

3) The film guides in the flat cardboard box next to the scanner are for scanning film strips, 35mm slides or 120 film. Be sure to read pages 8 - 10 in the Quick Start Guide before scanning film. (Of course, you can also use the film scanner connected to the PC over by the window.)

4) The reasons for the new scanner:
   * Fast warmup.
   * High optical resolution (4800 x 9600 dpi).
   * Programs for scanning to PDF and optical character recognition (OCR).
   * Compatibility with Windows 7 (coming in the near future...).
