NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- An Alaska Superior Court found Wednesday that ExxonMobil won't have to pay an additional $30 million to municipalities affected by the 1989 Valdez oil spill. In a press release Wednesday, the oil giant said it was sued by the communities of Cordova, Seward, Kodiak Island Borough, Port Lions, Old Harbor and Larson Bay for expenses the towns claim to have underestimated 13 years ago. They sued ExxonMobil for $12 million, with interest, asking for a total of $30 million. In the release, the company said it had already reimbursed the plaintiffs over $3.7 million for spill-related costs. "Still, a few municipal officials testified at trial that they and others grossly underestimated time spent on spill response activities in the reimbursement requests submitted to Exxon in 1989-91," the release said. The jury, however, found that the towns had already been fully compensated. Company officials weren't immediately available for comment. Wednesday July 17, 4:34 pm Eastern Time
