[School-GNU-Linux] Grub Editing and Kernel Updation

I use XP and Linux on the same system, now the default OS is Linux. How can
i set the default selection of OS choose menu in between Linux and Windows
by editing the grub. I also want to update my kernel to 3.8 Please help
