SBI opens drive-in ATM
Our Bureau
January 16

THE State Bank of India Chairman, Mr A.K. Purwar, on Friday unveiled the
country's first drive-in ATM facility at its head office here.

With this facility, customers would not have to face the agonising wait for
finding parking space or the trouble to alight from the vehicles. They now
can avail this facility to drive in right up to the ATM, reach out through
the window, complete their transaction, and drive away while sitting
ensconced in their vehicles.

Later, when Mr Purwar was asked to comment about the Union Cabinet decision
to hike the foreign direct investment (FDI) level in private sector banks to
74 per cent, he declined to comment.

Giving an overview of the bank's network, he said SBI and its associate
banks had networked all their ATMs allowing customers access to their
account from over 2730 ATMs spread over 870 centres all over the country.
SBI and its associates have 108 ATMs in the twin cities of Hyderabad and
Secunderabad and 285 ATMs in Andhra Pradesh.

The bank is in the process of completing the core banking solution linking
up the branches thereby enabling a customer the freedom to bank from any of
the networked branches. With the Internet facility, customers can now pay
their utility bills received from electricity department, LIC, SBI credit
cards and SBI Life or even book Railway tickets through e-rail service.

In retail lending, SBI has taken lead in the State disbursing about Rs 400
crore for housing in the first three quarters of the year. The Hyderabad
circle has financed about 7,300 self-help groups (SHGs) with an outstanding
of over Rs 1,900 crore, which according to the bank, was the highest amongst
all the commercial banks in the State in extending finance to the
agriculture sector.
