The UFO topic is wildly popular. I just got back from a week with the Girl
Scouts at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center north of Washington DC. A primary
theme was astrobiology--the girls were tasked with designing a mission to an
object of their choice (of four--Mars, Enceladus, Titan, and one other),
selecting processors, communications equipment, launch vehicle, type of
mission, science packages... Really interesting stuff. *
I have to agree with what others have said here regarding the US government.
It is not a single faceless entity. Mindless, maybe, but Abraham Lincoln said
it best. Or maybe it was Pogo, "we have met the government, and he is us!"
If you have chatted with any of the folks who work on SETI (which is mostly
privately funded) or any of the other projects, you get the sense they wouldn't
sit long on any credible evidence of extraterrestrial phenomenon. Particularly
the SETI bunch who aren't beholden to anyone. Most research projects let the
primary researchers announce their own findings--they have six months to a year
to prepare their own papers for publication before publicly funded data is made
widely available.
But no one (outside the military or possibly certain intelligence agencies) has
sworn any oath to keep secret data of this nature. And while the DOD may have
at one time had a UFO investigation team, they occupy no position in the data
stream between astronomers and the general public. Has any university staff
ever signed an NDA (non disclosure agreement) regarding alien activity? I have
never heard of such a thing--and anyone who stumbled across concrete evidence
would eagerly publish it. So eagerly that a lot of invented stuff (hoaxes) get
published.
I remember driving through the country one time and came across pieces of a
broken cell phone. What kind of technology did "ancient aliens" possess that
never broke and was abandoned, or was never lost? Our landscape is littered
with evidence of our technology. The most incredible piece of ancient
technology I've ever heard of was the Antikythera mechanism, which certainly
wasn't beyond the capability of the ancient Greeks however marvelous it still
is.
Would I panic if I learned of the existence of extraterrestrials who had
quixotically spent the last fifty years hiding in closets, kidnapping
occasional hapless humans for purposes of dubious medical experiments and
sexual prurience? Perhaps a better question is, would YOU panic if you learned
about it? Would you feel induced to suddenly shed your stock portfolio at fire
sale prices and move to an oversized culvert buried in Montana with a septic
system not up to code? ** I think you would behave as sensibly as everyone
else. The only upheaval I can think of would be that of well financed
entrepreneurs trying to corner the market on exotic alien gear. I cannot see
how that would have all that much impact on you or me, beyond getting locked
out of the IPO. I'm more concerned about access to basic health care, at the
moment, and who is doing what on Jersey Shore. If that is still a thing.

** Think "Church Universal and Triumphant." One of Elizabeth Clare Prophet's
daughters was Abraham Lincoln reincarnated, incidentally.

Regardless of my opinion on this subject it is clear the US government
believes our population could not handle the idea and there would be
'widespread panic' if the truth were revealed.
My Mom took us all out to the backyard on the MN farm decades ago and pointed
out numerous 'flying saucers' doing various antics in the night sky. Then she
told us strictly to 'not tell anyone as they will think you're crazy'.
With all I've read about pilot, astronaut & civilian sightings there's no real
doubt in my mind they are here and always have been. One theory is we are the
experiment and that is why there was a genetic jump to move the species
forward. At this point no one understands how that happened.
Love watching 'Ancient Aliens' when I have time and think it's interesting that
they pretty much always attach 'what if' to everything hinting these things may
be true...
Either you are curious and open-minded to sort through it all or not. Fear
keeps a lot of people on the straight and narrow so that is a factor as well.
Probably has a lot to do on how we were raised.
Found this link on activity world wide re: releasing files etc.

Interesting article - thanks for sharing it.
I was glad to see the following quote from Carl Sagan in the article:"Carl
Sagan correctly summarized the situation by saying that 'extraordinary claims
require extraordinary evidence.'"
After reading an article such as this, I always have to remind myself the "UFO"
does not necessarily mean "alien". For aliens - I'm still waiting for the
extraordinary evidence.

Hello all. I came across this article (an annoying read with all the ads,
sorry), and was wondering what the night sky observers think about it?
