On short notice I headed out to Fishtrap Saturday night with a friend. The
weather was about perfect, 65 degrees at 9:30, zero cloud cover, good
transparency and fair seeing. It was a small crowd, five of us all told.
In my haste to pack up, I forgot a number of essential star party items,
namely a jacket, table lantern, hat, gloves, etc. I had planned to work on
my Herschel list, but it turned out to be too tempting to just enjoy the
evening
I set up my camera and and took a couple of milky way shots (attached). The
first is of the galactic core around Sagittarius and the second includes
the Pipe Nebula (left) opposite the Rho Ophiuichi complex ( those
finger-like dust lanes)
Mars was impressive, as was the moon, which rose just as we left around 2
AM.
Weather should be good this Saturday as well! Hope to see you there!
Clear skies,
Nick
