Mike,
Yes, you have a nice scope there, glad you have the issue resolved. My Foucault
tester needs some work. Did you find your lens cap?

Problem solved. Since I had no room to move the primary back, I called Orion.
Turns out there is nothing wrong with the scope. There is an focus tube
extension I may not have received (I have to check tonight) that adds about 1
inch to the travel of the focuser. Using that will definitely solve the
problem.

Michael, perhaps your Orion 16" Dobsonian's mirror is too far forward. Is
there a way of adjusting your primary mirror so that it is closer to the

my classic Edmund 4-1/4" Reflector, but in that case the mirror was too far
away from the focuser:

Does anyone in the club have a foucault tester? I have a new 16" f4.5 and I
believe it may actually be f4.7(ish) based on having to rack the focuser out
all the way and insert the eyepiece only about 1/2 way into the focuser. If if
is infact greater than f4.5, I need to send it back but want to be sure.
Thanks
Mike
