I´ve tested on 2 systems, restarted clamd twice on each:

1. CPU Pentium4 2.66 GHz, 1GB RAM, kernel 2.6.18 i586
before sed:
2m28s
2m27s

after sed:
0m:34s
0m:33s

2. CPU Xeon 3410 3 GHz (Pentium4 class), 6GB RAM, kernel 2.6.18, x86_64
before sed:
2m:52s
2m:48s

after sed:
0m:32s
0m:34s
