Parents, On Wednesday, February 8, 2012, Manuel Scott, an Original Freedom Writer ( http://www.freedomwriters.com/ ) whose story is told in the Hollywood movie, Freedom Writers, visited St. Andrews Middle School to share is message with students. Manuel's unique message is one that has inspired, educated, and empowered almost a million people, helping them make the most of their lives. Ask your child about the visit. Mr. Scott will be speaking to parents of Richland One on Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 AM in the C.A. Johnson High School Theater (2219 Barhamville Road, Columbia, SC 29204). You can read more about him below: At the age of fourteen, Manuel dropped out of school, and his English grammar was so poor that he was classified as an English as a Second Language student (ESL). By the age of 16, he had already lived in 26 different places. At an early age, he was influenced negatively by drugs and alcohol. However, due to an amazing transformation, Manuel has defied all the odds stacked against him. This high school drop-out now holds degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and Trinity International University. Having spoken for hundreds of organizations, he is the speaker of choice for conferences, conventions, banquets, Teacher In-Service or Institute days, school-wide assemblies, Back to School Kick-offs, and Parent-Outreach events.
