MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:


Dear Parents:

Your child is eligible to participate in an exciting field trip
opportunity.  On Friday, October 29, 2010, St. Andrews Eighth (8) grade
students will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to take part in the 
“Slavery and Freedom Walking Tour” offered by Charleston Walks.  

The purpose of the field trip is to allow students to witness
first-hand the experiences South Carolinian slaves endured.  Students
will be able to view the site of a slave auction and visit a slave
museum.  The history of the Gullah culture will be discovered along with
slave revolts that occurred here in South Carolina.  Additionally,
students will see where slaves lived and learn why the slave trade was
so important for South Carolina.  This field trip meets specific eighth
grade Social Studies standards.  

Any student who receives an out of school (OSS) suspension between the
date of this letter and the date of the field trip will automatically be
excluded from participating.  Additionally, any student who receives
more than two (2) in school suspensions (ISS) will be excluded from
participating.

The cost of the field trip is $35.00.  The cost includes the walking
tour, a bagged lunch, and transportation to and from Charleston.  We
will depart St. Andrews Middle School promptly at 8:15 A.M. and return
by 3:45 P.M.  It is essential your child arrive to school by 8:00 A.M.
the morning of the field trip.  

Deadline for payment ($35.00) and permission slip is Friday, October
8th.  Participation is on a first come first serve basis.
