Hi all
Angela and Paul shared this and I thought I’d pass it on for you all to read.
Radnor is the puppy which Paul’s Lodge raised funds for and named. It was
lovely reading the update, and I understand arrangements are being made to
bring the puppy to visit.
Best wishes
Just
Radnor continues to progress through the puppy raising stage, we’ve been in
touch with his Puppy Raiser, Rob, one last time to find out how they’ve been
getting on. Rob told us that Radnor has been making lovely progress with his
training and that he’s doing all that’s expected of a pup of his age.
Radnor’s lead work is now of a very high standard, and he is able to maintain
the basic guiding position, which is in front and to the left of Rob, with
light to moderate tension on the lead. This is a great skill, teaching pups to
be a secure and steady guide. Rob said that the main thing they are focusing on
is curbing Radnor’s enthusiasm, which although great for his work ethic, is
less appealing when he ‘walks everywhere really fast’, so tends to pull a
little. However, Radnor is a fast learner and is already responding well to
this extra training to be calmer.
Busy situations, such as town centres, are where Radnor excels - he’s able to
stay focused and relaxed and nothing fazes him at all. Rob has found Radnor to
be much calmer in these crowded places than just out walking on pavements. When
Radnor has his training jacket on, he seems to go into ‘work mode’ and
concentrates on the task at hand really well. If they stop off at a café,
Radnor settles quickly and patiently waits until it’s time to go. Lifts and
stairs pose no problems for Radnor - he is happy to use either whenever he
needs to.
Rob said that he loves puppy raising Radnor and described him as a cheeky, but
sensitive, soul who loves carrots and car rides! Radnor is a very sociable boy
too; Rob told us that that they have a good friendship group on free runs, and
the other owners always praise Radnor’s fantastic manners with other dogs and
his recall skills. In fact, Radnor is so universally adored, that when he has
been to stay with boarders or visited Rob’s friends, people don’t want to give
him back as he is so good and sweet! At home, mischievous Radnor has perfected
the unusual art of bringing out his loudest, squeakiest toy every single time
Rob is on a work Zoom call! We hope you’ve enjoyed Radnor’s latest pupdate and
we’ll be in touch again soon to celebrate Radnor’s birthday with you. We’ll
also let you know when he makes the move to ‘big school’.
