You might remember that I planned to stand down as the WDG lunch organizer this
year. No one came forward to take over the job, but Christine and Janette have
offered their assistance. Thank you both very much.
I just received an email from Renee at Cafe Mio who wrote, ‘With a heavy heart
I am writing to let you know that we are unable to open for the foreseeable
future.‘
If I understand her explanation correctly, her landlord has allowed the fitness
centre next door to have exclusive use of the toilets it had previously shared
with Cafe Mio. Cafe Mio cannot legally trade under the license it applied for
without access to toilets for its clients.
I know several of our members have been looking forward to the reopening of
Cafe Mio for our WDG monthly lunches. So this will be disappointing news.
The next best option still is the Captain Cook Hotel, which we frequented after
Mio ‘temporarily’ closed for refurbishment early last year. The Captain Cook is
reasonably priced and within easy walking distance of SAG. While it mainly
serves pub-style food, there are some healthy choices on its menu too.
Therefore, unless anyone has another suggestion, we will be booking the Captain
Cook for our monthly lunches again this year.
