Answer:

If I did not attend it might be because I feel the waivers are wrong. I do not believe in frivolous suing or suing in general and that is not why I am against the waiver. It is highly unlikely anything could happen that would cause me to seek litigation. I never have and most likely never will sued anyone.

I see the waivers as a threat. People are being threatened that if they do not sign, something bad will happen to them (bounced from the club, ejected from the event, shunned by the event promoters, ...). Astronomy events used to be most enjoyable and of value. Waivers would have a detrimental effect on that. I have attended several RTMCs and never had to sign a waiver. I have attended many events that could be classified as dangerous (e.g., motocross racing as participant and observer) and have never had to sign waivers. To me requiring them for star parties is ludicrous.

I think it would be wise to contact another lawyer.

I agree contacting another lawyer might be wise. But making claims when given evidence against it isn't.

SAC has other reasons for possibly using another lawyer not related to
your claims. Whether we do or don't will be up to the board.

I have a question for you. Would attend or not attend the 2006 Messier
Marathon strictly based on whether a signed liability release was
required? If not, why not.
