Hello Board; The one item that I forgot to bring up at the board meeting was that SEDS, the Tucson student group at U of A, has computer problems and is asking for donations to get a new server. This group has posted the Messier Marathon results, held a version of the SAC database and been helpful in a wide variety of other ways for many years. They are a marvelous resource of information on a wide variety of astronomical subjects. Paul said at the meeting that we can hold a simple vote if the amount does not exceed 200 dollars and I believe that is a reasonable amount. I am not a voting member of the board, but I would like to see SAC provide some help to this worthy cause. So, also at the meeting, Thad moved to get the vote taken on providing SEDS with 200 dollars but not enough voting members were handy to do so. I request that the board vote on this issue when it gets a moment to do so. Here is a message from Bill Arnett in Flagstaff and it contains the link to the SEDS site. If you have not been there in a while, go take a look at all that they provide, it is worth a donation of SAC money. Steve Coe As some of you may have already noticed, the SEDS server (which hosts "The Nine Planets" among other things) is down due to a hacker attack. The recovery is going slowly in part because the server is an ancient Sparc 10 with software that hasn't been updated for many years. So they've started raising money for a new server: http://seds.org/index.html If you can help, even a little, please consider it.
