Well done to you all - it was a bumper week, and we sailed through the 6.5
million mark without a pause!
I know I've said it before, but it really is very satisfying to see how far
we have come. We're in our 20th year, which is no mean feat in itself in the
world of websites, and it's all due to YOU - without indexers, we wouldn't
have Ryerson.
We are at an exciting time in genealogy - our RNR continues to grow, and
hopefully provides you all with useful information for your own research. We
have a project underway, driven by Bob Atkins with lots of input from the
local FH Society, to index the Maitland Mercury back to its inception in
1843. We have true 21st-century software to support Ryerson for the
foreseeable future.
If there is a negative on the horizon, it is the fact that the SMH contained
just TWO death notices one day this week. That is unheard of for a
non-holiday period, and is symptomatic of the reduction in death notices
currently being published. While we have more than enough indexing to keep
us all busy for as long as we want, the future for genealogists seeking
death information in 20 or 30 years time is less rosy.
But let's be positive - give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done,
and then get back to work!
