I've just had a 'phone call from Alexa and as a result spoke to David Harmer, our SCC councillor. David tells me that the work is now scheduled to start on September 7th (after Weyfest). This could cause problems with our September events (the busiest month of the month of the year) but I don't think it will be anything major. The official diversion route to Tilford will be via The Bourne and Old Frensham Road/Reeds Road bringing everybody right past the museum gates. This route should be well signposted however David recommends that, because we are expecting over 500 vehicles to the Classic Vehicle gathering, we contact Surrey Highways and make them aware of the fact. He thinks 500 vehicles on one day will "concentrate their minds" sufficiently to ensure the route is properly signed! I will endeavour to undertake that notification (and of our other September/October events) later this week when I'm back in the office. I think it might be advisable for individual event organisers to also contact them to "back up" the notification especially if HGVs or low-loaders are expected (Steam & Vintage Weekend). The work cannot be undertaken any later in the year as the new road surface will not "take" properly once October arrives. (The official reason for the change of date from April is the roadworks - a long standing, large hole - at the Bourne end of Old Frensham Road on the official diversion route. I think the work here is as a result of me spotting a hole opening here some time ago - the "repair" has been going on for at least two months!)
