Crime Round Up Western area 25th-31st January Tongham GD/13/742 NATIONAL FRAUD INTELLIGENCE BUREAU THE STREET TONGHAM Thursday 10/01/2013 Monday 14/01/2013 HAVE PHONED ELDERLY RESIDENT PRETENDING TO BE FROM BARCLAYS BANK AND HAVE ASKED FOR PIN NUMBER FOR CURRENT ACCOUNT BANK CARD BEFORE STATING A COURIER WILL BE ATTENDING THE NEXT DAY TO ISSUE A NEW CARD. HAVE THEN ATTENDED IN PERSON THE NEXT DAY AND EXCHANGED OCCUPANTS BANK CARD FOR A FRAUDULENT ONE AND THEN USED THE CARD TO WITHDRAW FUNDS. + + +Additonal local information Similar incidents occurred recently to an elderly resident in Smugglers Way,The Sands, and in Farnham with Lloyds TSB, when considerable sums were stollen from the accounts. NEVER divulge your card details to anyone, in person, by phone or letter, especially your pin number, however genuine they seem. If you think the caller may be genuine ask for their telephone number and say you will call them back. Then telephone your bank or card company on their usual number and ask if they have called you. Do not phone back on the number you have been given (if they give you one).Report the incident on 101 or dial 999 if the culprit is still around.
