Dear Rustics

Please have a look at some information I recently received from a colleague.

We have a defibrillator at the RLC.

Who thinks it would be a good idea to get it out of its box and have a look
at it one coffee break?

Do you know how to use a public defibrillator?

Do try to take the time to read it and follow the You-Tube links.

Portable Defibrillators and How to Use Them

The Government is encouraging all public organisations, and private
companies, to consider the placing of defibrillators in as many locations as
possible because they DO save lives in the event of a heart attack.
Many do not know they are often in public places and the lovely old red
telephone boxes are being used to house some.
The public ones are secured in yellow metal cases which have instructions on
the outside for their release. The case is secured by a digital lock and you
are instructed to call the ambulance using 999 (or 112 if using a mobile
phone) and you give the ambulance controller the identification number
printed on the box and they will then give you the code to open the case.

A Portable Defibrillator

Take the defibrillator to the casualty, open the lid and follow the
instructions which are given by the machine, automatically. Simpool!! (You
know, that advert!).
If you have a spare moment, go to YouTube and watch ‘Stage 3 How to perform
CPR and use an AED’ (automatic external defibrillator)
https://youtu.be/1cwA2mYrSkk, to see how simple it is to use a
defibrillator, watch “Chris Soloman’s Rescue”, https://youtu.be/w32PUDL2lb8,
to see it being used and watch “TU Delft-Ambulance Drone”,
https://youtu.be/y-rEI4bezWc, to see what perhaps the future holds!
I appreciate some of you may be trained to use a defibrillator but many are
not, so watch at least the first two videos because you never know when such
awareness will be necessary!
