Tomorrow a group of Native Americans will be holding a rally at the Simms
Building at noon - the same time as our usual rallies. Please see their
attached flyers. We are going to be there to support them, but will not be
actually running the rally. Lisa has been in touch with them and got
information directly from their organizers.
In another piece of news - this time good - Sec. Zinke announced that he was
backing off his quest to open Chaco to oil/gas exploration. Our Senators pushed
hard on him. Chaco is safe for now, but nothing would really surprise us!

Attached is our flyer for the rally in PDF and JPEG formats. I cc'ed Rebecca
who is with Wildearth Guardians and the Frack Off Chaco Coalition. Below are
some facts about what's going on in the Greater Chaco Landscape.
- 91% of the Public land in the Northern New Mexico area that surrounds
Chaco has already been leased out for oil and gas
- over 40,000 oil wells exist
- 9% of the land that isn't leased surrounds the Chaco Canyon site (World
Heritage Site)
- BLM is planning to lease 25 parcels of land, which is about 4,500 acres of
land that surrounds Chaco Canyon
- Fracking emits methane gas pollution, GHG (GreenHouse Gas) that
contributes second to carbon dioxide in the Climate Change Crisis
- An unknown number of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
- 870,000 to 2.8 million gallons of water is used for ONE well pad
- 80 to 200 semi-loads of water is transported to the well pads, while the
same amount of waste water is transported out
- The dirt roads through our the Tri-Chapter Dine communities share dirt
roads with Oil and Gas traffic; school buses have to share the same roads.
