| Dear Cheryl,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wants to allow exploration and drilling
for oil in the Arctic Refuge. Please attend a special hearing on Tuesday, March
5, to speak out against this plan.
The only public hearing the BLM held in the lower 48 states took place in
Washington, DC. In an effort to give more Americans a chance to be heard, there
will be a community hearing from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the University of New
Mexico, Ballroom B in the Student Union, 1 University of New Mexico,
Albuquerque, NM, 87131.
There will be testimony from representatives of the Gwich'in nation, an
opportunity for you to provide testimony or record a statement, a virtual trip
to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, light refreshments, and a lot of people
power. The BLM is seeking input until March 13.
Please share this Facebook event with your networks and encourage your
community to attend the hearing.
If you have any questions, please contact Erik DuMont with Environment
America, edumont@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, or Subhankar Bannerjee,
subhankar@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, the professor who spearheaded the effort to
make this happen.
Thanks,
Fred Houdek Central New Mexico Group chair | Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter
