The Climate Narrative Is Shifting As
Youth ClimateStrikers Lead The Way

Dear Cheryl—

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) calls upon everyone tosupport tomorrow’s
U.S. Youth Climate Strikes. The youngergenerations, carrying Climate Truth as
their guide, are leading theway forward. It’s incumbent upon all of us to stand
and march withthem.

The climate narrative in the world of Democratic politics haschanged. Since
last November, seemingly from out of nowhere, themainstream climate position in
progressive circles is that we areindeed in a climate emergency. It has even
begun to force its way intothe mainstream Democratic Party narrative as well.

The narrative in Democratic Party politics has changed for thebetter. The
Ocasio-Cortez/Markey Green New Deal resolutionshave forced a sustained
discussion of a 2030 timeline for a climatejustice-centered, WWII-Scale, Green
Moon Shot, societal transformationin the U.S. Congress.

The demand for Climate Truth jolted the climate networks inspiringa shift from
pursuing incremental strategies of the “politicallypossible” to reckoning with
what, in the face of this existentialthreat, is actually necessary to avoid
societal collapse.

This shift didn’t come from out of nowhere, nor is it going toweaken. It
cannot. It is the full-throated determined arrival of theyounger generations
building upon the decades of work of great climateleaders across all sectors.

We are at the dawn of the most critical phase of thetransformation, the phase
during which we must remain diligent andfocused. We must not allow any effort
to dilute or delay progress oraction. The messengers of Climate Truth—the
younger generations—areleading the way, and we must support them every step of
the way.

This week, PDA and our allies at The Climate Mobilization reported that 395
citycouncils already have declared climate emergencies across fivecountries.
The Sunrise Movement is taking the Green New Dealdirectly to the people with
the Road to a Green New Deal.

Also, The Extinction Rebellion is building toward aninternational week of
direct action April 15-22, (more details comingsoon). Our Children’s Trust
continues moving forward inefforts to bring its constitutional climate lawsuit,
Juliana vs.the United States to trial.Watch the 60 minutes piece on it that
aired last week. Finally, there is the breathtakingly powerful, inspiring, and
lucidcall to truth from the U.S.Youth Climate Strikes. Tomorrow, March 15,
isthe day of international action.

PDA calls upon you to sign up, show up, and stand up in solidarity withthe
school strikers every way we can. Tell everyoneyou know. Share on social media.
Donate to support our climate action. Show up foryour kids, your grandkids,
your great-grandkids, and generations tocome.

There can be no dilution of the truth. Only the strengthening ofour courage and
resolve to face and to meet this moment in history, and to insist that climate
truth inform and set the agenda for the2020 election cycle. The threshold for
candidates must shift. Thethreshold of our expectations must shift. All
candidates must bedetermined to mobilize on climate. This is our work.

With gratitude in my heart and the future in mind,

Russell Greene, PDA Board Member, for Alan, Deb, Mike F., Mike H.,Dr. Bill,
