From our friend, Jan. If some of you are able and interested in attending,
maybe set up a carpool? We can discuss on Tuesday.

Jan,
The Bureau of Land Management is preparing to sell off more than 84,000 more
acres of land in New Mexico, including more than 46,000 acres in the Greater
Chaco region.
The BLM’s chronic disengagement with the public’s concerns, community health
impacts, and lack of tribal consultation incited over 10,000 citizen protest
comments submitted opposing the December lease sale. Despite this, the BLM is
set to move forward with the December 6th online oil and gas auction of public
and ancestral tribal lands.
Please rally with us to protect the Greater Chaco region from 12 to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 5, at BLM headquarters, 301 Dinosaur Trail, Santa Fe, NM.
Tribal leaders, environmental groups, and dozens of Greater Chaco advocates
will gather to protest this move.
Tribal leaders and governments, impacted community members, environmental
organizations, and allies have been clear in their opposition to industrialized
fracking in the area. The BLM has consistently ignored calls for a moratorium
on new drilling and leasing and for the new resource-management plan to
adequately analyze and address the oil and gas impacts that communities
regularly endure. The BLM New Mexico agency has also reduced opportunities for
public involvement, providing the shortest public-engagement periods in the
West.
We hope you will join us. ALL are invited to speak out and join us in a
community gathering of chants, song, and calls to action as we give public
statements to the BLM to follow through with broken promises that reflect
tribal rights and public interest, not just those of industry.
Please also share the Facebook event.
Hope to see you there,
Miya King-Flaherty
Our Wild New Mexico Organizing Representative
