From our friend, Karen.

From Indivisible: "Just yesterday, Senate Democrats, lead by Chris Van Hollen
(D-MD), backed our strategy to refuse to proceed with business as usual until
Mitch McConnell brings a bill to the floor to reopen the government. They
played hardball, and they won -- blocking the first bill that Mitch McConnell
tried to bring up. That is a BIG deal. And it never would have happened without
your calls and office visits."
So, call Sen Udall and Heinrich and THANK them for halting any actions in
Senate until the government shutdown ends! And tell DC that we really
appreciate the ABQ office staff speaking at our rally on Tuesday!

| The only crisis at the border is of Trump’s own making.
Group Leaders,
It is a terrible, egregious thing when autocrats use the tools of democracy to
undermine democracy itself.
That’s exactly what happened last night. Trump used the power of the Oval
Office and network TV cameras to spout lie after lie during his prime-time
address on national television -- all to spread fear over an “undeniable
crisis” at the southern US border to get funding for his unpopular, racist
wall. This is fear-mongering at its worst.
The only crisis at the border is of Trump’s own making. Separating children
from parents and locking them in cages. Tear-gassing families. Denying refugees
fleeing violence their legal right to seek asylum.
But thanks to you and your loud, constant constituent pressure and creative
tactics (lookin’ at you Indivisible MN-03), the vast majority of Americans
aren’t falling for the Liar in Chief’s lies. And House and Senate Democrats
aren’t either.
On the first day of this new Congress, more than 160 Indivisible groups showed
up at their member of Congress’ offices to say, “Whose House? Our House!” It
was the largest single day of action in Indivisible’s history. You got Rachel
Maddow’s attention. And most importantly, you got your elected officials’
attention. You reminded them that November was a repudiation of Trump’s racist
ideas -- and that this movement will not stand by as Congress rubber-stamps his
white nationalist agenda.
Democrats heard you loud and clear.
Just yesterday, Senate Democrats, lead by Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), backed our
strategy to refuse to proceed with business as usual until Mitch McConnell
brings a bill to the floor to reopen the government. They played hardball, and
they won -- blocking the first bill that Mitch McConnell tried to bring up.
That is a BIG deal. And it never would have happened without your calls and
office visits.
Here’s what you can do right now
-
If your Senator was one of the 43 to stand up to McConnell and vote no
yesterday on the motion to proceed to S.1, ask your members to call them and
say thank you.
-
Share our call script with your network to tell your Senators -- Democrats and
Republicans alike -- to refuse to proceed to any legislation until the
government is reopened. If it’s not a funding bill, then it should wait. The
next time a vote on a motion to proceed could happen is as soon as tomorrow.
-
Get ready for the January recess. Our MoCs are returning home in just two
weeks, and it will be a major opportunity to speak out and demand they stand
strong against any deals to fund the wall, as well as urge them to support H.R.
1. And if you haven't yet signed up, RSVP for tomorrow's monthly activist call
to learn more.
Thank you, as always, for standing up against bigotry and injustice -- and for
believing in this work.
In solidarity,
The Indivisible Team
