Good morning, resisters! I was out of town over the weekend and did not bring
my computer, so I am woefully behind in forwarding action alerts, meaning you
are going to get a bunch of them this morning!
Hope all is well in your worlds. See you tomorrow!

- HB 93, Primary Election Participation by DTS Voters, sponsored by Rep.
Daymon Ely, is scheduled to be heard on 29 January in the House Consumer &
Public Affairs Committee. Currently, voters who decline to state a party
preference when registering to vote cannot vote in primary elections. This
bill would enable those voters to vote in a primary election by affiliating
with a major party at the polling place.
- Please email or call the members of the committee listed below to express
your support for this legislation.
- You can prepare, and then copy and paste your message into emails to the
committee members listed at the bottom of this message.
- You can click on the name in the list below to open an email to the
corresponding legislator. If that doesn't work for you, you can go to
https://www.nmlegis.gov/Members/Find_My_Legislator to find the email address.
Your message
- Remember, the principal purpose of the message is to show your support for
the legislation.
- However, a brief justification for your position is helpful though not
essential, to let the legislator know that you are familiar with the
legislation. Here is the main justification (but please use your own words):
- Even though primary elections are financed by the state, current
statute only allows voters who have chosen a party preference to vote in
primary elections. Thus, many voters are denied the right to vote in primary
elections.
Tips for emails:
- If the addressee is the chair of the committee, you may wish to note that
the legislation is scheduled in "his or her" committee.
- If you are addressing the sponsor (see above) of legislation that you
support, you may wish to acknowledge that by expressing your thanks.
- If you are addressing the sponsor (see above) of legislation that you
oppose, you may want to acknowledge that the addressee is the sponsor (for
example, use of the phrase "...your bill..." in the message) while expressing
your disagreement.
- If your own legislator is a member of the committee, acknowledge that in
your message.
