For years we have tried to get money from the State Grant Permanent Fund to
fund early childhood education in New Mexico. Decades of research has shown
that this actually saves money in the long-run because we have fewer costs
associated with poverty and crime. It's a no-brainer. Sen. John Arthur Smith is
a conservative democrat from Deming who chairs the committee that holds up this
legislation each year. He's going to do it again. Please call and email him
ASAP! We're on a real short time-frame here.

2 points need to be made.
1) We will primary you and work tirelessly to replace you. The tide has
changed! We got Xochitl elected in deep red southern NM and we can get someone
else elected in your place. If you want to be a Republican, we'll treat you
like one. Remember what happened to Rep. Rodella in Espanola? She fought gun
legislation tooth and nail; a great candidate challenged her in the primary and
now holds that seat. It's doable!
2) We are simply asking that this be put on the ballot to allow ALL New
Mexicans to decide this issue. Instead, it's just a small group of voters in
Deming who are holding this up. Let the people of New Mexico decide this issue.
Also, call Senate President Pro Tem, Mary Kay Papin, and tell her to replace
him as chair of the Senate Finance Committee. He has held up important
legislation for far too long and should no longer be in that important
position. Her number is 505-986-4733.
Other leaders in the Dem Senate should be contacted. Peter Wirth 505-986-4727
and Mimi Stewart 505-986-4726.

We worked REALLY hard to increase the # of Dems in the legislature and we
expect results.
Here's an interesting article about it.
