To be honest, I used my Rolliflex on a tripod for many years before I found out about the possibility of damage without a Rolleifix, but I consider myself lucky to have done no damage. The Rollei tripod socket (as well as those on other TLRs) is relatively fragile. I always use a Rolleifix now when I mount my Rolleiflex on a tripod. On those rare occasions when I use my Rollei on my heaviest tripod (normally reserved for MF SLRs) my Rolleifix is attached to a Bogen-type Hexagonal QR plate.
