Kodak Tech Pan and Technidol
Hello all. Has anyone tried this old film recently. I have a freezer with
many 35mm rolls and wonder what the results are using the 'proper' developer.
Is it worth the time and effort or just toss them in the trash?
Best Regards,
Steve

I would like to report back that the Super Ikonta C is O.K. To make sure I
exposed an old Kodak Ektachrome E100GX from the freezer. The images are sharp
(and the colours are fine).
I hope that everyone of the List is in good health. The part of the country
where I live is not very much affected. Of our district with 50,000
inhabitants only 6 are (were) in hospital and that number is stable for about
4 weeks.

Ferdi,
Would love to see some of your Super Ikonta C images with the Ektachrome. Do
you have the ability to scan and upload (to Flickr or similar)?
Good to know you are fine.

Jan,
Yes, I still have a Nikon medium format film scanner for more than 15 years
now. I shall scan them and I may have a Flickr account. I'll let you know.
The images are not very special, just some shots from our garden of trees and
benches I could easily focus on using the range finder.

Great, thanks, Ferdi! I'd love to see them, too.
Also glad to know you and others are yet healthy. We're bunkered down here in
Faringdon for the last month and prepared to keep on. We have a 3 year old,
so nothing much gets done in the daytime, but I'm getting an occasional roll
of film developed in the hours that I steal from my sleep.
Best to all!

will continue trying the friction wrench and various solvents for
a while. This is a 12", f/6.3 lens I bought many years ago. Dates

Hello All,
It appears I cancelled my Flickr account but I have uploaded three images
elsewhere:
https://stutterheim.nl/images/2020-04-14-0002-3.jpg
https://stutterheim.nl/images/2020-04-14-0005-4.jpg
https://stutterheim.nl/images/2020-04-14-0003-2.jpg
The pictures are small but I have larger ones. The Ektachrome I used is the
old Ektachrome E100GX, not the new E100. The expiry date is 2007, so 13 years
old but frozen (-19 C) all the time. Like I wrote before they are not very
interesting, just a few test shots made in our garden, about 2 weeks ago.
Taken hand held and it was a bit windy.

The image quality is very much like my 531/2. I find the lens decently
sharp but overly contrasty for my taste. I prefer medium contrast
lenses which is why I shoot vintage.
Still for a folder, they make a nice image. The rigidity is good and
the rangefinder accurate.

Well, accurate except for the displacement from the taking lens.
This is what drove Ansel Adams crazy shooting TLRs and rangefinders.

A curious thing about front element fousing lenses is that
the effective angle of view remains constant with distance so a
fixed optical finder is always accurate. This is because the
focal length changes with the distance focused on, becoming
shorter for closer distances. Reflex and open frame finders that
travel with the camera front (like a Speed Graphic) also remain
accurate.

It is a 3.5/105 mm Tessar, T coated. The Super Ikonta is post-war, eatly

It was a high-contrast day and I slightly increased contrast. Without

better not. It was a few years ago that I scanned slide film.

Jan,
No self-timer, the shutter is a Synchro-Compur XM. I am going to use the
tripod soon. Ik like your suggestion but Drachten has no real city centre.
Although we count around 40,000 inhabitants now, it was a small village of
8,000 in 1945. Then we got the Philips ("Norelco", "Philishave") shaver
factory and grew to 40,000. I would have to travel to Groningen for instance
but travelling for fun is not possible at the moment.

Does your SI C have a selftimer?

I have been following this thread on folders, and have enjoyed it. And now I
have a comment to make. I have had a Super Ikonta IV since my dad bought it
for me new in the early 60’s. A few years ago I had it cla’d and it’s like
new again. But I have one problem with it. The shutter release has a fairly
long travel and requires a fair amount of pressure. The result is that I have
trouble getting shake-free pictures. A soft release would, I think, solve
this, but I can’t screw one into the shutter release and release the shutter
with it because the film advance knob is right next to the shutter release
and prevents the soft release from being depressed far enough to take a
picture.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, a cable release works well on a tripod, but handheld?

How about just a cable release?

I have a comment to make. I have had a Super Ikonta IV since my dad bought
it for me new in the early 60’s. A few years ago I had it cla’d and it’s
like new again. But I have one problem with it. The shutter release has a
fairly long travel and requires a fair amount of pressure. The result is
that I have trouble getting shake-free pictures. A soft release would, I
think, solve this, but I can’t screw one into the shutter release and
release the shutter with it because the film advance knob is right next to
the shutter release and prevents the soft release from being depressed far
enough to take a picture.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I don’t think the throw is any longer, but I think it takes more pressure.

Thanks for the information Ferdi. It is a different look than I am

Eric,
It was a high-contrast day and I slightly increased

digital images. I agree, in this case better not. It was a
