Subject: [rollei_list] another odd question RE; Rolleicord
I've had a number of people comment on my old Rolleicord V. Some tell meThis is rubbish! I have a Rolleicord IV and have worked on it and a few others. I have have three Rolleiflexs, one of which has a Xenar in it. The quality of construction is the same and the quality of the lenses is the same. Actually, I think the Xenar in my cord is the better of the two. The lower cost of the cord is because it is a much simpler camera. It does not have the automatic threading feature or the complex film winding mechanism with coupled shutter cocking and has a simpler finder hood without the eye level mirror arrangement. Schneider sold its lenses cheaper than Zeiss but its pretty obvious that the quality of post war Schneider lenses is excellent. The shutter used in the two is identical. Even though the Cord was cheaper than the Flex it was still a deluxe camera. It seems to me that F&H had a single quality standard which it applied to all products.
the Cords were "not built to the same standards as the concurrent
Flexes." and suggest that it's xenar 3.5 is not as sharp as the xenars
on some Flexes....
I know the Cord was cheaper -- but was it made to lower quality control
standards?
