Thanks, Raid. 1127034 was part of a batch of 4,000 such lenses made around 1954, or so say the factory records, though bear in mind that the Oberkochen factory records are rather dicey until the late 1950's. (It is "strange, but true" as Ripley used to tell us, before he got into the business of setting up Odditariums, that the Communist CZJ records of that time are far more reliable than are the Capitalist Oberkochen ones.) 1137562 comes from a batch of 1,000 such lenses, again apparently dating from 1954.

Both of these are late lenses to bear the Zeiss-Opton brand; we have Carl Zeiss lenses with serial numbers below 1,000,000 on record. Zeiss has always made its lenses in batches, though, so parallel production lines would often have serial number runs off by some numbers one way or the other, which is why both Thiele, who publishes the factory records, and Charlie Barringer, who maintains the Zeiss Lens List, are both vital.

I have copied this missive to Charlie in hopes that he can shed some light on why the earlier lens lacks the red T. I can be very boneheaded and am probably missing an obvious explanation, I fear!
