I use a model C Ries wood tripod for everything up to 4x5 and wouldn't think of using anything else. Its light, goes up fast in the field and is very stable - very little vibration. The Ries is from the late 40's and the price is right (as compared to carbon fiber). For my Rolleiflex I use a large Slik ball head with the Rollei quick release tripod adapter. Do any list members use them? If so, what do you think of them, and if it came down to choosing between a medium sized Berlebach wood tripod or a carbon fiber competitor of similar quality, size and, hopefully, price, which one would you pick, or doesn't it matter? The tripod will be used with 35mm and 6 x 6 cameras - SLRs, mostly. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. Feel free to mention brand names.
