[rollei_list] Why Bay II??

Sorry to interrupt the stream of social and political verbiage on this list, but I have a question about Rolleiflex.

I recently opened up an E Rolleiflex, "#1" 3.5E Xenotar. The shutter, Synchro-Compur, is a "#00" size, same as the MX-EVS and Rolleicord Va. I have an extra 00, so I tried the Xenotar to see if it fit on the shutter body. Yep, sure did.

Two questions: why did Rollei bring back Bay II for this series of cameras? A simple desire to create a new revenue stream as people needed to buy new hoods, filters, etc.? Using up the left-over parts from the 2.8 Tessar? Something more going on?

Secondly, could a 3.5 Xenotar or Planar be installed on, say, a Rolleicord or MX-EVS? Or are there non-obvious issues that will make this not work?

References or links that will provide answers welcome.

Thanks- Dan Daniel
