[rollei_list] Very OT: Going Dark

The US Federal Communications Commission and Congress and our President agreed that today is the day for the conversion from all analog TV broadcasts to digital. Most stations seem to have switched before their morning broadcasts this day, though some may push on 'til Midnight.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once noted that, "the unexpected seems to happen on occasion". Has anyone been caught flap-sided on the conversion?

I watch VERY little TV -- though the Sci Fi Chnnel is to broadcast a rerun of PRIMEVAL at ten PM EDT today and BBC America both a rerun and then a new episode of the same at 8 PM tomorrow and the local Political Bloviating Station will run a RED GREEN tomorrow at 10:30. After that, I will await the next NetFlix delivery, albeit my wife does enjoy Home & Garden, for what purpose I know not.

But, then, thanks to the apparent magic of the computer, I will be able to listen to an episode of that magnificent word-play radio show, SAY'S YOU, at 1930 hours, +5 time, this evening.

My senior Sulcata Tortoise has a better idea than most of us possess. He gets up when the sun warms him, crawls out of his burrow beneath my Appurtenance, chews away on the shrubbery and ground fodder until I stir and feed him his daily fodder of broccoli, kale, power pills (legal ones, mind you!) and dried figs. Then he stomps around the yard again, and takes a siesta under the appurtenance for several hours in the afternoon. He then does an afternoon stroll to check to see whether I have forgotten to feed him and will provide him a second repast. He has no TV in his burrow and assures me that he is on Letterman's side on the Palin controversy, but, then, Franklin is certainly a child abuser himself -- I have to carefully guard my younger, and female, Sulcata when I put her in the back yard.

Anapsids are interesting creatures. My Minipinzer, as the Germans call them, spends hot and lazy afternoons in those burrows under the appurtenance ...

But, then, nothing went dark for my tortoises, as they do not watch television.
