Nice to see that you also like Nevil Shute. Aside from his timeless book (& great movie!) "A Town Like Alice", I read one other book by him about a deeply religious fellow who after WWII starts an air freight company in the Middle East (forgot the title). Great and off-the-beaten-path story telling!

ROUND THE BEND was the name of that boo. Try THE FAR COUNTRY for a discussion of sef-discovery or NO HIGHWAY or THE RAINBOW AND THE ROSE. The TRUSTEE FROM THE TOOLROOM was possibly his best writing -- the tale of a featureless man who has made a minor name for his abilities in detailing the building of scale model engines who finds himself catapulted into travelling across the world to protect the interests of the nicee he barely knew. He was committing tax fraud all along the way and kept his mouth shut and did his duty as a trustee. I would suspect that the niece he raised would never have been told of this, as the Trustee was, well, a very private person. These are books worth reading.

Thanks, Jan.

Marc
