Shutter button. The knock on the head would not be a correct use of the word in English.

The first time I heard the word in the US a waitress dropped off a menu and said she would be back momentarily. I thought Jeez they must be busy, assuming that she was encouraging us to make our choices because she would not be there taking our order very long.

Hi:

Is this with regard to - "momentarily" depress the shutter-button, - or - "momentarily" knock him on the head? The first is correct. The second may be illegal and give cause to be sued for damages.

Hi Mark, in the UK momentarily means "for a moment" rather than "in a moment".

What's the UK definition of momentarily?!?

Progressively; moment-by-moment. I bet. From the Wiki...

I have never heard of D.M.A. Virgo either, I'm
afraid.

UK films used with a US market in mind often use
American words rather than English to avoid confusion
in the larger market. The use of "momentarily" with
the US rather than UK meaning in the first Harry
Potter film leaped out at me for example.
