Singapore could be a solution for Rollei if they had less ambitious objectives but they wished to compete with the Japanese industry regarding quantity and price. Suddenly Rollei was building enormous factories in Singapore and buying Voigtländer Optical in Germany, they manufactured in Singapore from alumium plates and screws to shutters and lenses for the cameras. Rollei promised to the Singaporean government to employ 10,000 workers for the eighties, they really employed till 5,000 on the seventies, Rollei expanded fast too much on the seventies, finally they couldn't pay back to the banks...
