I believe that the RolleiGrid was produced for a few years while the ground glass were true glass and not plastic version. When the technology allowed for an improved plastic focusing screen, Rollei sold various types of plastic focusing screen in different configuration. Here is a posting I wrote that did not appear on this forum. Not knowing the actual name of the type of screen, I post a current eBay link and maybe that was not allowed. If that was the case,I apology. Evan ---- On occasion, if you search eBay, you will find many of the older Rolleiflex screens popping up for sale. Just be cautious and ask plenty of questions in advance of these sellers, as I discover many omission of vital information regarding the type of screen, grid lines, split image or spot magnifer, etc. Further insult, I received a NOS that was roughly shaved down and had a hairline crack. For another screen from a well known dealer overseas, he refused to answer my questions for better description & photo of the screen with an original box stating it had gridline with a split image finder. Now having said that, I have listed below some screens on the big auction eBay, that are not often encounter. eBay item number: 231365622266Labeled as: ROLLEI ROLLEIFLEX GRID FOCUSING SCREEN FOR SL66 CAMERA, This screen has everything you would want from an original screen. I believe that Beattie Screen offered a similar screen at one time. I have one NOS purchased years ago for a Rolleiflex F. For now I'm content with the regular grid line with center split image finder. This screen doesn't come up that often. Are the SL66 screen the same size & thickness as the later F screen? eBay item number: 281473455940 Labeled as: Rolleigrid bright screen with original sleeve for Rolleiflex TLR, 56mm*64mm This is a later E2 to F screen that I have in several of my older D & E Rolleiflex. I beleive that it was offered at one time for the non-removable screen initially and then for a brief time for the newer E2 to F. This screen is Bright in the center, magnifies slightly, and has gridlines. I like this screen as it is bright and allows you to "Snap-In" contrast that the newer Bright Scrrwen lacks. ALthough the newer screen offers better light gathering, I found it to lack the ability to help with critical sharp focusing of snap to contrast to help. You will not need a RolleiGrid, as it does scratches up the plastic screen. The RolleiGrid screen are best reserve for the older Ground Glass screen that are GLASS. eBay item number: 231365622262 Labeled as:USED ROLLEI ROLLEIFLEX CENTER SPOT GROUND GLASS FOCUSING SCREEN FOR SL66 CAMERA As far as I know, this is a RolleiGrid drop-in screen. It has the indent at the top & bottom where you pinch the aluminum center tab on the older non-removable Rolleiflex. Used mainly on true Glass Ground glass screen. Do not use on the newer generation plastic ground glass screen. eBay item number: 281463789043 Labeled as: Rolleigrid bright screen with original sleeve for Rolleiflex and Rolleicord TLRThese screens are not a ROLLEIGRID screen at all. These were transitional GROUND GLASS PLASTIC (Acrylic) screen for the older true GLASS Ground Glass screen in the older non-removable WLF Rolleiflex TLR. The thickness and size of these scrrens are identical to the real Glass Focusing screen. These are also brighter than the older ones. I have several of these bought form a shop going out of business. These screen scratches easily, so do not use the RolleiGrid with these screens. eBay item number: 131325311445 Labeled as: Rolleigrid Screen Finder Rollei Grid Rolleiflex 55 65 55mm 65mmAlthough a box labeled as "ROLLEIGRID" is with this screen, I do not think it's a RolleiGrid. Never saw this screen before, so I can't comment on it. Using these screens and the newer third party (Beattie or BrightScreen, Maxwell) plus the alternate screen coming in from China now, I found the OEM screens to be the best for detail focusing for the simplr fact that it has that "Snap to" contrast when in use. The "BRIGHT" screens tend to lack this ability, hence my reason to replace them all with the original screens. This is of course my personal preference, as many others prefer the Bright screens. There is only one Rolleigrid model made by Rollei. It's to be used in conjunction with the Ground Glass only (made of true glass), for Rollei TLR cameras with fixed viewfinder hood. The size is 54mmx58,5mmx1,1mm.
