2010/11/26 John Wild <JWild@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>: > Do I believe this? An SL35 made in Singapore with a serial number of > 4027169; good value? Rolleiflex SL 35 production started in Germany in February 1970 and it was maintained there up to about June/July 1972, however in _May 1972_ some SL 35 started to be assembled in Singapore with German parts and the Planar 1,8/50 standard lens made by Rollei Optical Co Singapore and the camera back also made by Rollei Singapore. SL 35 true protoypes included within the "Zero series" have the serial number in the camera back: 0.400.xxx or 4.000.001 to 4.000.100, these cameras were made in Germany. The SL 35 regular production cameras in Germany have the serial number engraved in the bayonet inner part as shown in the auction from the serial numbers 4.000.000 to 4.029.999 (the s/n block was not used entirely), these numbers include some of the firsts SL 35 assembled in Singapore with German parts and the back and lens made in Singapore, the SL 35 regular production in Singapore starts in June/July 1972 with the s/n 4.030.000 engraved in the bayonet inner part; and then the auction camera sn 4027169 could be considered a "protoytpe" from the point of view it was one of the firsts SL 35 assembled in Singapore with German parts and the back made in Singapore, but this camera has nothing special technically or asthetically, and it is included within regular serial numbers, I think it is expensive.
