The main authors about Rollei TLR cameras agree that the last model for the Rolleiflex 2.8F was the special edition "Platin", 500 units manufactured from 1984 to 1985, each camera costed like a brand new car because the galvanized platin covering for some metal parts was very expensive and the fact Carl Zeiss and Gossen needed to rebuild the tooling and to train workers to make the lenses and the lightmeters for the TLR again was very expensive too, Rollei had used the stock Xenotar lenses and lightmeters saved from the bankruptcy sales in the previous 2.8F "Aurum" special edition. Rollei Fototechnic feared they couldn't sell the Platin due to the high price, however they sell the 500 units in short time according Prochnow, Rollei distributors in Asia bought a significant number of 2.8F Platin cameras. The point is that there is now in eBay a never used 2.8F camera called " 2.8F 60 Jahre 1929 -1989 Aurum-Platin Edition" made to celebrate the TLR 60 years in 1989, this special edition is not mentioned in my books, but the explanation seems to be easy, the camera is a regular 2.8F Platin, only the platin or silver plates (Rolleiflex name, serial number on a lateral panel and series name on the camera back) were replaced using golden plates and then it received the name "Aurum- Platin", I compared the Planar serial number between a regular Platin and this camera and the serial number for the "1989" 2.8F is lower than the regular Platin Planar serial number but they are close, it means (very probably) both lenses are from the same batch, the 1989 camera is a 1984/85 Platin (Planar Nr 6886689 for the "Aurum-Platin", Planar Nr 6886833 for a regular "Plaitn"), the "Aurum-Platin" comes from Hong- Kong, I guess some of the Rollei distributors that bought the Platin launched this slight aesthetically modified edition in 1989 with the factory support, Rollei official model to celebrate the TLR 60 years in 1989 was the Rolleiflex 2.8 GX "60 Jahre" special Edition (1500 units).
