Thanks Rob, You really gave me good info. I'll take your advice. I always thought that I'd keep it in case but I've had it for decades now. I did get it all tuned up at a professional camera technician but I still haven't used it, except when I was starting off taking pictures as a teen. I did do a decade-long stint as an architectural photographer but you can imagine that this camera was not really useful. I used a sinar 4 x 5 for that. So now I'm mostly shooting wildlife and birds so again, the Rollei and it's 80mm lens doesn't work well. Oh, well. Maybe I can find somebody who would appreciate it. I'm really sorry to hear that you won't be using the Rollei... although "old." they remain very capable machines. If, indeed, you are going to sell the camera, this list would be a good place to start (many of us are also very disdainful of eBay... too many crooks). If you have a digital camera, I would suggest taking [very detailed] photos of all surfaces and close ups of the lenses. Look carefully for (1) places of wear on the metal (scratches or paint worn thru), (2) abrasions to the leather covering, (3) and scratches or "cleaning marks" on the lenses. It is easier to examine the lenses by shining a flashlight through the lenses so that you are "looking into" the light from the flashlight. Note all "defects" that you find posting your commentary on the list and e-mailing the photos to any interested party. Although there will probably be some "second opinions" on this, I would guess the camera would be worth between $500 and $850. That's a pretty big range, but conditions can vary a lot, too. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Jensen To: rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 6:05 PM Subject: [rollei_list] Re: Rollei TL camera Hi Rob, Did you get the photo? I have no idea what price range I'm looking at if I sell it. Other than the light meter, it's in excellent condition. Do you have any suggestions on places that I could sell it? I'm never going to use it. I'm thinking that ebay isn't a great idea though. thanks again, Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob Pritchett To: rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 2:13 PM Subject: [rollei_list] Re: Rollei TL camera Jim, According to http://home.worldonline.dk/rongsted/Rolleisn.htm , yours is a Rolleiflex 2.8E... wonderful camera, I've got one myself! As to value, it would help if you could post some digital photos. Okay, the serial number is 1646096. the zeiss lens serial number is Nr2263028. The serial number on the top lens is 777782. I don't see any D's, E's or E2's. Does that help? thanks, Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry Lehrer To: rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 1:55 PM Subject: [rollei_list] Re: Rollei TL camera Jim, No, there are other numbers on the camera. Even the Planar lens has a serial number. It could be a 2.8 D, E, or E2 Only an idiot would evaluate its worth based on the paucity of information that you have supplied. jerry Jim Jensen wrote: Hi,I have a Rolleiflex Twins-lens camera was originally my dad's. It has a Carl Zeiss Planar 2.8 80 mm lens. I know it's from the 40's or early 50's. It has the flash selector in the upper right hand corner (facing the camera). The only numbers I see on it are DBGM and DBP. Can you tell me what model it is and how much it is worth? It was completely cleaned and overhauled about 10 years ago. It's in excellent condition.
