Some years ago I bought an original Rollei automatic adapter to use M42
lenses on Rollei and Voigtländer QBM cameras. This adapter only worked on
my SL 35 QBM I camera, it did not work for my SL35 M, SL 35 E and
Voigtl[ander VSL3-E QBM III cameras. I became intrigued because there is
only one version commented in the Rollei literature for this adapter and
it is useful for every QBM version; I also asked the group and a list
member answered his adapter was useful for his QBM I and QBM III cameras.
I noticed the problem was the wide slot for the f stops simulator in the
QBM III cameras, the QBM I cameras don't have this slot, it did not allow
me to turn my adapter up to its position. The adapter looked perfect to me
and I thought it could be an earlier version for the QBM I only that the
Rollei literature did not register it, it happens sometimes.
Last year I bought another Rollei QBM- M42 adapter, it looked identical
apparently in comparison with my first one, however the "newer" one worked
fine for all my QBM cameras. I said someday I would compare them to find
out the difference.
OK, I did it today, the difference is that the "newer" one has a silvered
ring on the adapter rim in the bayonet side, in the other hand my first
adapter does not have this ring and its rim or edge becomes protruding
someway interfering with the camera QBM III slot and this is the reason it
works like a glove for the QBM I. I examined the first adapter with a loup
and it has a tiny mark in the silvered ring place, it lost it; it is not a
different adapter version. This problem was a mystery to me and it was
solved today.
