Still sorting things, I just came across a CD
Tech Notes
Camera Repair CD
(c)2006 Rick Oleson
Version 2.00
The logo is a drawing of a seriously damaged Rollei
The CD contains pictures and serial numbers of lenses and cameras and repair
examples for many common issues. I did a Google search and he has a website
with interesting information and repair suggestions.
What I found particularly interesting in the CD was a discussion of broken
shutter links on an Argus C4, my first serious camera. It was a design defect
and common. I used that camera for 5 years until I bought the 2.8C in Hong
Kong in 1954. Rick shows how to remove and replace the leather on that and
other cameras.
I continued to use it from time to time until I got tired of replacing that
link (Officially a "toggle") and gave the camera to someone who would deal with
it. I did make one major mod to the camera- I convert the F sync to X so it
would work with a strobe I had bought in Panama. I ground a separate profile
on the shutter drive shaft and added a new set of contacts, worked fine.
Continuing on the primary subject, I have no idea how I got the CD but it seems
that his website now allows repair instructions to be downloaded for a fee.
I would include a link here but the search brings up several references. Just
do a search and let me know what you find of interest. He covers many Rollei
items so don't hesitate to check it out.
One good search string is "Rick Oleson camera".
Stay Safe,
