I first tried Provia 400 in 35mm with long lenses. I expected results to be
similar to Ektachrome 400 from the 70's. Upon scanning it, I saw what the
term "dye fields" means. Instead of grains, the fine detail looked like it
was painted on with transparent (but concentrated) watercolors.

I am agreeing with you absolutely. This is the first
time I use Provia 400 and I'm impressed for the lack
of grain considering it's an ISO 400, I still need to
scan the other 11 frames but I could see colors and
grain are excellent, it seems this film is better than
the Provia 100.-
