It was probably me, ordering the one that doesn't fit. It's hard when the
seller just advertises it as Bay II and the reference books just list them
as Bay II and Fleenor's site just cites them as Bay II.

Here it is in a nutshell:

Rolleiflex 2.8A Unique Bayonet II
Rolleiflex 3.5C (Europe)/3.5E (US) Bayonet II with 42mm abstand
3.5E2 Bayonet II with 42mm abstand
3.5F Bayonet II with 45mm abstand
3.5E3 Bayonet II with 45mm abstand

"Abstand" is the German term for the offset from the center of the viewing lens to the center of the taking lens. The greater distance in the later cameras is caused by the use of a more complicated shutter arrangement in the later 3.5 cameras to accommodate the integrated light-meter and shutter controls, speed and f/stop.

Identification of a specific Rolleiflex model can be a bear but if you will send me your body serial number, I ought to be able to decipher this. If it is a 3.5F, all but the very first carry "3.5F" as the first part of the serial number.
