Hi Don,
maybe just requiring some sort of keys to start an aircraft (like the do in
smaller craft) would help?
Norway. But public healthcare exists in most of the world. It’s part of the
social contract most of us engage in that includes schools, police, fire
departments, infrastructure, etc. Even countries like Namibia and Romania have
universal public healthcare. I’m not interested in starting a political debate,
this is not the place for it. I am shocked though that anyone would turn it
into a political issue, as seems the case in the US.
Flying was awesome, I hope I can do some more soon.
Best,
Thor

To be honest I wasn't thinking so much of the technical details, but more
about what a tragedy this is for the man who took the plane and his loved
ones. He needed some sort of help, that I think is clear, and did something
either out of desperation or confusion. Maybe he was bipolar and in a manic
period, I dont know. Having moved to the US recently I'm shocked at the lack
of any public healthcare and even more by the fact that there's even a
debate about it, while the rest of the world (even poor countries) manage to
provide it pretty well across the board.
Also, I recently come back from my very first flying lesson, so this is a
sobering article. He was only 29. So much wasted.

I've sort have re-thought my suggestion and most likely it would probably
save one similar event every 200 years or so. I do think we will end up with
a few procedural things that will solve the problem.
About health care, what is your home country?
About flying lessons, I had my last one in during high school, when I worked
at a local airport as a "junior mechanic". That would have been more years
ago than you are old.
