I didn't see your reply among all the static. Sorry. I think the argument about the lenses being parallel is probably right since the usual viewing arrangement is such that the effective angle of view of the camera is duplicated at the eye including the effective orthogonal image. There are, of course, imperfections in the stereo image, mostlby because it is correct only in one plane and the eye wants it to be correct in others. This is also an answer to those who think stereo pictures need to have almost infinite depth of field. Actually, limiting the depth of field can cover up a multitude of problems beside serving the same purpose it does in single images of directing the eye where its wanted.
