Marc:
According a 2001 article " After Dresden: the migration of
the Contax to Jena and Kiev" written by Larry Gubas for the Zeiss
Historica Society and shown in the official Zeiss Historica web page,
the "Jena cameras" were made at Saalfeld and the _associated lenses_
and accesories could be made there too :
"... The documents state that the production line was not in Jena
proper but rather in Saalfeld which is about an hour's drive from
Jena. This would be the site where the Werra cameras from VEB Carl
Zeiss Jena would later be manufactured. It would seem that the Jena
Contax, associated lenses and accessories were all manufactured there.
It is my strong certainly that it is these Contax cameras from this
pre-Kiev production in Saalfeld were to become known as the Jena
Contax. (See C. Barringer's article from Spring 1999.)..."

Peter Hennig from the Zeiss Historica in the article/web page I quoted
in my previous post shows the photograph you mentioned about the Kiev
camera being assembled at a Carl Zeiss factory in East Germany.
I agree with you about the prewar and wartime coated lenses, if CZ
Jena was coating lenses in 1946/47 regularly it means they were doing
it from some time ago.
I also agree about British and F&H. Russians did not want a RF Contax
and RF Kiev simultaneously and then the Contax S was developed in East
Germany on the basis of some previous projects, afterward DDR no
longer could use the brand name "Contax" and the "Pentacon Dresden"
(PENTAprism CONtax) was established as a sort of communist "Zeiss
Ikon" in Dresden again, first during 1959 like "Volkseigener Betrieb
Kamera- und Kinowerke Dresden" and like "Pentacon Dresden" in 1964 .
Thank you very much for the invitation about the Zeiss Historica, I
was thinking about it really.

Carlos
